Never give up on a scheduled tournament in Kansas until the Tournament Director has called you and cancelled it. We all looked at rain falling in our communities and on radar in the Bonner Springs area where the forecast for the day was RAIN.
Entries who showed up at the scheduled 9AM start time were told to return at 1PM when the afternoon session was scheduled and the tournament would either be played or cancelled at that time. Everyone who pitched in this event drove in rain to get to the tournament site by 1PM when the afternoon session was set up with the 16 people present and got underway by 1:15 PM.
While it was humid throughout the afternoon the clay was in excellent condition even with an occasional sprinkle that would pop up for a short time off and on during the tournament. The results of this event are now posted as you will see.
The high over average pitcher of this event was Bradley Schlimme who pitched 5.54 percentage points over his entry average. Bradley is having a tremendous start to the 2014 season as his ringer average has jumped from 22.18 in January and will increase to 32.5 when these tournament results hit NATSTATS next Wednesday. Big difference is that Bradley abandon the turn shoe and is now pitching a flip. I see nothing but improvement for him from this point forward.
Gary Fulton was also over his average in the tournament. He will also find himself in uncharted waters after the Nastats update this week when his average moves into the low 40's
After a sound defeat at the hands of the Nebraska horseshoe pitchers in Columbus last week-end the pressure is on Kansas to protect it's home turf next year when the annual KS-NE Borderwar moves back to the courts in Belleville. The results of the 2014 tournament are now posted on this site and you can also view photos from the event at this link KS-NE Border War thanks to Kayla Kvacik and Adam Peterson who posted them on the KHPA facebook group.

The results of the Wynne Mihura Open in Lawrence are now posted and also marks the beginning of the 2015 World Tournament Qualifying period.
This event had 21 entries with the high over average going to Susan Fulton who had a huge tournament pitching what I believe is her personal best 47% tournament average. This was 9.17 percentage points better than her entry average and also earned her a first place finish in B Class.
Other over average pitchers included Bradley Schlimme, Lyle Turner, Gary Fulton, Bob Knabe, Wynne Mihura and Bob Jackson.

Just received word from Melvin Jeardoe that Ks fell to Ne in the 4th annual Ks-Ne Border war tournament. We do not have the tournament results available yet but will get them out to everyone by e-mail this week.
The 3rd annual Hall Of Fame Invitational was held at the HOF Facility in Wentzville, Mo. on +May 3 & 4. Congratulations to Ora Lee Jeardoe and Roger Vogel who were invited to compete with 14 other top 30 ft pitchers in the nation. The results of these two divisions #19-14-036 5/3-4/14 3rd Annual Hall of Fame 40' Invitational @ Quail Ridge and #19-14-037 5/3-4/14 3rd Annual Hall of Fame 30' Invitational @ Quail Ridge pretty much tell the whole story.
One thing you might note is the person who pitched te most shoes (956) out of both divisions was none other than our very own Roger Vogel from El Dorado, Ks. This indicates that he was locked up in some pretty hard fought battles through out the two-day event and came up shy of first place by a very narrow margin. It is an honor to be invited to this tournament but the real frosting on the cake is when you can pitch your average or better after you get there. Very proud of how you both represented the Kansas charter.
If you are going to the World Tournament in Buffalo, New York you must have your Entry Form in the mail no later than midnight May 15. Yea, that is this coming Thursday!!
As the entry period ends on Thursday, May 15 for the New York World Tournament, the qualifying period starts for the Topeka, Kansas World Tournament that will be July 13-25, 2015. Every sanctioned tournament you pitch in starting this coming weekend will count as one of the four qualifying events needed to qualify to enter the Topeka WT. In the event that you are changing pitching distances in 2015, remember that you will have to have four tournaments from the new pitching distance between Oct 1, 2014 (when the 2015 NHPA membership cards are available) and May 15, 2015.
The 11th Annual X-roads Classic is only four weeks away. This is the only two-day tournament in Kansas other than the State tournament. This event always draws out of state pitchers and is a fun time every year. Click this link for more information. If you haven't pitched in this event before, give it a go. You will love it!!!! The more entries there are in these tournaments the more fun they are.
The 4th annual Ks-Ne Border War tournament will be in Columbus, Ne. Sunday May 18. Those of you who signed up for this event should be receiving pitching times via e-mail or other means very soon. Directions to Pawnee Park---Most of you Kansans will be going up to Columbus on Highway 81. You will cross the Platte River and about a 1-1/2 miles farther you will cross the Loup River Bridge.
Once you cross the bridge, you'll see the park to your left. You'll take the first left you can (at the Dairy Queen) to enter the park. Turn left at the baseball field and follow the road around to the west side of football field and you'll see the courts!
Lawrence will be hosting the Wynne Mihura open on Saturday, May 17. at 1PM in Broken Arrow Park. Please pre-register with Wynne Mihura @ firstname.lastname@example.org or call 785-843-8450.
Ottawa results are posted for their May 4th tournament, where they had 35 entries-one person shy of a full house for a single session tournament. Welcome to four new members. Rick and Jason Talley are not new to the KHPA but I have not seen them on the courts since 1998 when the State tournament was in Hutchinson so welcome them back. Darrel Rilinger of KC and Arnoldo Duarte of Ottawa are both new KHPA members.
Topeka results from Saturday May 10 are also posted. There were also 35 entries in this tournament with one new member from the past to report. Kurt Riebel who has not been a member since 2009 has returned to the courts. Welcome back Kurt. The high over average person in this tournament was Don Walrod at two percentage points over his entry average on his way to a first place finish in Class A. Other over average pitchers included: Ora Lee Jeardoe, Darrel Weaver, Khamkeo Keopine, Joseph Cisneros, and Kyle Bidwell.
During the noon break at this tournament, court 1 was dedicated to Roy Reese, for whom this tournament was named. A certificate of the occasion was unveiled at the ceremony and permanent signs will be located on the fence as well. Roy is the heart and soul of the THA because of his tireless work ethic of court upkeep which he has passed on to all the members along with all the mentoring he has done for members and passers by over his many years around the Gage Park Horseshoe courts. You would be hard pressed to ever find a time of day that Roy wasn't at the courts pitching, working or mentoring.
See Ya on the courts Soon

Kay Haffner recently contacted us through this website asking for help promoting a horseshoe tournament in Grainfield Ks. Click on this poster to get full details of the event. I asked her if we could also promote the 2015 World Horseshoe Tournament at that event as well to which her reply was, "absolutely". I hope that several of our members can make it over to this event to represent the KHPA and help us promote the 2015 WT.
The results for the Salina tournament Saturday, April 26 are posted. The weatherman scared off entries into this tournament with gloom and doom--severe hail and tornadoes. It just turned out to be WIND. Out of 14 entries only one pitched his entry average for the tournament and that was Bob Minneman on his way to a first place finish in Class B. Welcome to a new KHPA member Dale Clemmer who pitched in his first KHPA sanctioned event.
I have been taking some photos at the events I go to around the charter and post them on the KHPA Facebook group. I hope that someone can take photos at events that I don't make it to and either post them on the Facebook group in a photo album for that event or send them along to me so I can post them for you. If you took photos at the same event you can add to the album that I made up for that event.
If you have news to pass along about your tournaments that you would like sent out to the membership by all means pass it along to me. Otherwise all I have is what I can put together off the tournament results
